I didn’t include Michelle Lesley’s outstanding blog post, Toxic (Evangelical) Femininity, in last week’s Saturday Sampler because I wanted to draw special attention to it. Yeah, it’s that significant!

Michelle wasn’t so much concerned about the world’s latest kick of blaming everything on “toxic masculinity.” The world rejects all God’s standards anyway, so we needn’t be surprised at the growing rejection of male leadership that God established from creation. Rather, she focused on the feminist attitudes that have been slithering into the church.

Sadly, Michelle correctly analyzed the situation. I say sadly because the growing feminist influence in evangelical churches highlights the increasing compromise with the world that I’ve been blogging about for the past three years. This compromise, like all the other compromises evangelicals so eagerly make, betrays a contempt for God’s Word that goes all the way back to Eve’s willingness to actively question the command God had given her husband.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.

He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” ² And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, ³ but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” ⁴ But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. ⁵ For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” ⁶ So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. ⁷ Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. Notice that Eve removed herself from her husband’s authority in order to pass her own judgment on God’s Word. Granted, Adam should have protected her from the serpent’s lies, which explains the reason Adam bears the ultimate judgment for falling. Yet clearly Eve determined that she had the right to interpret God’s Word to suit herself.

The women pushing for egalitarianism in marriage and in church leadership imitate Eve’s disastrous rebellion against God’s Word. Like her, they listen to the lies of Satan, believing that “toxic” men are maliciously withholding the delicious fruits of leadership from them. So they reinterpret God’s Word and take what they desire regardless of what God says about the matter.

Praise God for women like Michelle Lesley who have the intestinal fortitude to say that feminism is toxic to the evangelical church. I agree. In fact, that’s why I discourage men other than my husband and elders at First Baptist Church Weymouth (who rightfully have spiritual authority over me) from reading this blog.

Feminism is a toxin that the Body of Christ absolutely must eliminate. Let it spread its sickness throughout the world, but don’t let it infect God’s church!
