In My Place Condemned He Stood

Who among us fully comprehends their sinful conditions? At times we do something so blatantly wretched that we catch small glimpses of our depravity, but those glimpses fade rather quickly. Most of the time, we have difficulty really believing that we deserve eternity in hell.

At least I do.

But in such horrible moments, the Lord calls His people to look towards the Gospel. Jesus took our sin, bearing it on the cross as if it belonged to Him! As innocent as He is, He accepted the condemnation that rightfully belongs to you and me.

When we grasp the magnitude of Christ’s sacrifice for us, how  can we fail to adore Him? How can we keep from worshiping Him as the incredibly wonderful Savior He is? Perhaps our vileness, in all its stench and squalor, allows the splendor of His love and grace to shine more brilliantly. Hallelujah! What a Savior!

  1. It was hard to get through that without weeping. My 8-year-old asked me during our Bible reading the other night how it was possible to be saved if you have to be righteous and the Bible says none are righteous. The beauty of the Gospel, deep enough for eternal contemplation yet simple enough for a young child to see. With man it is impossible but with God, all things are possible. The greatest miracle! That He saved wretched, depraved sinners like us, adopted, and imputed with Christs righteousness! The more I see my sin, I see His righteousness and kindness! The more I see His righteousness the more I see my great need. Thank you for this, sister, may the Lord bless you.

    • I love how you say, “The more I see my sin, I see His righteousness and kindness! The more I see His righteousness the more I see my great need.”
It just goes on to remind me that where sin abounds, grace abounds much more and nothing on earth, above or beneath the earth can separate us from the love of God.

  2. Christ is really so amazing. Thinking that we don’t deserve the gift of eternal life but Hum being so gracious and merciful has freely bestowed it to all who believe. This is the greatest act of love that can never be beaten.
