Each morning, John and I listen to John MacArthur’s Grace To You broadcast. Currently, Grace To You is featuring MacArthur’s most popular Christmas messages that he’s preached over the course of his fifty years of pastoring Grace Community Church. Today’s message focusing on the deity of Christ captured my attention, but not in the way you might expect.
As MacArthur preached on Jesus being the Son of the Most High, and therefore being God Incarnate, I thought about God as the Most High Being. I don’t meditate on the fact that He is the Most High often enough, which usually leads me to regard Him a little more casually than I should.
That casual attitude particularly shows up in my prayer life, I’m sorry to say. Yes, I know the stereotype of physically disabled Christians being mighty prayer warriors, and I desperately wish I fit that stereotype. As I can no longer turn pages in a physical Bible and find using a computer increasingly difficult, I know the time will come when prayer will be my only ministry.
Lord, make me ready!
Anyway, as I reflected on the Most High God, I found myself in awe that this most transcendent of all beings — this Creator of the universe — invites a wretch like me to come before Him in prayer!
Two months ago, I felt nervous about meeting Justin Peters. Yet how silly to be star-struck over another human being and then take for granted the privilege of approaching the throne of the Most High at any hour of the day. Do I really understand Whom it is that I address?
Even more amazingly, this all powerful Ruler of heaven and earth commands me to come before Him without fear.
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. ~~Hebrews 4:14-16 (ESV)
Because of Jesus, we can approach the throne of the Most High boldly, confident in His love and care for us. Such a thought makes my mind swirl! It also fills me with joy and adoration!
